HELP PROTECT DJAKI KUNDU – DIGITAL STORM

HELP PROTECT DJAKI KUNDU – DIGITAL STORM

We’re calling on our followers to help support the Sovereign Kabi Kabi people at Djaki Kundu, who have been forcibly removed from their Country and are now watching as the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads is destroying their sacred site.

Find more info on Djaki Kundu here and here.

Tonight, please spare a few minutes of your time to leave a voice message at a few politician’s offices in an action called a ‘digital storm’. The more voice messages, the more impact!

What is a digital storm? After close of business, a group of people all send in voice messages to a politician’s office expressing their concern over an issue. At the start of business the next day, the office is inundated with voice messages that they have to listen to. This is a great way to make sure politicians can’t ignore these issues and injustices.

Below you’ll find a script of what to say in your voice message and a list of five politician’s offices to call. It’s super easy – you don’t even have to speak to anyone and it only takes a few minutes per voice message! Thank you for your help.

Script:

  1. Name and where you’re from

“Hi, my name’s Scott and I’m calling from Canberra on Ngunnawal Country”

  1. I am calling to demonstrate my support for the Kabi Kabi people at Djaki Kundu and I’d like to draw the Minister/Premier’s attention to the injustices occurring at the site
  2. The destruction of Djaki Kundu goes against numerous laws in this country as well as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
  3. I call on Minister/Premier [insert name] to immediately stand against the destruction of sacred Kabi Kabi sites, halt the planned works at the site, and not be complicit in the destruction of Indigenous cultural heritage
  4. Thank you

Feel free to personalise and add more to your voice message, for example, why you believe it is wrong for the government to destroy Indigenous sacred sites to build roads and why you are passionate about the issue.
